Libraries and study rooms#

The Sapienza Library System includes more than 40 libraries across numerous branches and provides reading seats, bookable group-study rooms, computer workstations, borrowing services, bibliographic assistance, and classes on research methods and bibliography preparation.

Its collections include about 2.7 million books, journals and multimedia resources. Sapienza students can also use thousands of e-books and electronic journals and more than 170 databases, including off-campus access where permitted by the Library System.

Finding a library#

The current list of libraries, including locations, contact details, opening hours and available services, is published in the Sapienza Libraries Catalogue.

The Information Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications Library in Via Eudossiana is listed as inactive and is therefore not included among the recommended facilities on this page.

Libraries convenient for Department locations#

The following libraries are often convenient for Department students, particularly because they are close to the Via Antonio Scarpa and Marco Polo locations:

Department study rooms#

The following spaces are particularly useful for students of the Department of Computer Science:

  • Room S1 — Regina Elena, Building E, Floor -1;
  • Room T1 — Regina Elena, Building E, Floor 0;
  • Study Room S4 — Regina Elena, Building E, Floor -1;
  • Lab. Colossus — Via Salaria 113, Floor -1;
  • Lab. HAL9000 — Via Salaria 113, Floor -1.

For locations, availability and current information, see the page dedicated to the Department’s study spaces.

For S1, T1, Colossus and HAL9000, a room is available for study only when it is not being used for lectures or other institutional events. These rooms are closed on national holidays and whenever the relevant facility is closed, regardless of the events displayed in the timetable. Check the Rooms page daily: its timetable is synchronised automatically with GOMP, but some lectures or events may not appear. S4 is specifically designated as a study room.

24-hour reading rooms#

Sapienza lists the following reading rooms:

  1. Umberto I General Hospital — entrances from Viale del Policlinico 155 and Viale Regina Elena 324;
  2. Earth Sciences — Geology Building, CU005, access from Piazzale Aldo Moro;
  3. Faculty of Law — Private Law — Plesso Tecce, CU018 Building, access from Piazzale Aldo Moro;
  4. Basic and Applied Sciences for Engineering — Sala Ghizzetti — Via Antonio Scarpa 16, RM007 Building;
  5. Oriental Studies — Marco Polo Building, Circonvallazione Tiburtina 4, RM021 Building;
  6. Modern Foreign Languages and Literatures — Marco Polo Building, Circonvallazione Tiburtina 4, RM021 Building.

Not every room listed necessarily operates continuously at all times of the year. Check the official 24H Reading Rooms page for:

  • current opening hours and scheduled or exceptional closures;
  • access requirements and procedures, including the student card;
  • seating capacity, where published;
  • available services, such as Wi-Fi and electrical outlets;
  • regulations and any location-specific registration arrangements.

Finding books, articles and other resources#

The Sapienza Libraries Catalogue can be used to find books, journals and other materials held by Sapienza libraries and to identify the libraries where they are available.

DiscoverySapienza searches the catalogue together with many electronic resources. You can search by title, author or subject and, where required, sign in with institutional credentials to use personal services and access eligible resources off campus.

For an effective search:

  1. enter the title and, if known, the author’s name;
  2. check the access options to see whether the resource is available online;
  3. for a printed copy, open the catalogue record and check the holding library, availability and shelf mark;
  4. check the library’s page before travelling, as borrowing, consultation, booking and entry may be subject to local rules.

A printed item must be requested from a library that holds it. For help, use the in-person or email reference services listed by the individual libraries.
