Erasmus#

The Erasmus+ programme allows Sapienza students to complete part of their studies at a partner university abroad. During the mobility period, students may attend courses, take exams compatible with their study plan, and carry out research for their thesis.

Erasmus+ study mobility can last from 2 to 12 months. The period may be divided into more than one experience, subject to the overall limit applicable to each study cycle.

Deadlines, eligibility requirements, available destinations and procedures may change from one academic year to another. Always check the official Sapienza Erasmus+ Study page for up-to-date information.

How to apply#

To participate, students must apply through the call published by Sapienza. The call specifies eligibility requirements, available destinations, selection criteria, required documents, deadlines and application procedures.

Before applying, carefully check:

• the general requirements and any requirements specific to your degree programme or faculty;
• whether the host university’s course catalogue is compatible with your study plan;
• the language requirements for the chosen destination;
• the deadlines and documents specified in the call.

Choosing a destination and comparing courses#

When choosing a host university, compare its course catalogue in advance with the courses included in your Sapienza degree programme. This helps you prepare a coherent Learning Agreement proposal and supports the subsequent recognition process.

As an exploratory tool, you can consult ARIS - Suggerimento Esami, which organises, by faculty, suggestions for possible matches between Sapienza courses and courses offered by universities abroad. It can be useful for an initial search, but it is not an official source and does not guarantee automatic recognition of any exam: its content, course availability and suggested matches may not be up to date. Your final choice of activities must be agreed with the academic mobility coordinator and recorded in the Learning Agreement.

Language requirements#

Applicants must have language skills appropriate to their chosen destination. Assessment procedures, accepted certificates and possible language tests may change. Check the official Language requirements section and the Sapienza Language Centre (CLA) website.

The programme also provides Online Language Support (OLS), a platform students can use to assess and improve their language skills. Updated information is available in the Online Language Support (OLS) section.

Grants#

Erasmus+ mobility may include a grant, which in some cases is supplemented by Sapienza or Italian Ministry funds. The amount depends on factors including the destination country and the student’s financial situation. Additional funding may be available for students with fewer opportunities or specific needs.

Amounts, requirements and compatibility with other grants may change. Always refer to the official Grants section.

Students with specific needs#

The programme provides support measures and the possibility of applying for additional funding when physical, mental or health conditions generate extra mobility costs. Applicants should disclose their situation according to the procedures set out in the call.

After selection and before departure#

If you are selected:

1. follow the instructions provided by Sapienza and the host university;
2. prepare your Learning Agreement, agreeing in advance on the activities to be completed abroad and how they will be recognised;
3. read the updated guide and documents in Information for Erasmus+ grant recipients;
4. check whether pre-departure language courses are available.

Recognition of activities completed abroad#

Activities agreed upon and successfully completed during the mobility period are recognised according to Sapienza’s procedures and regulations. It is therefore important to agree on the Learning Agreement before departure and update it within the required deadlines if changes are needed.

Mobility to the United Kingdom#

Mobility to the United Kingdom may require a passport, visa, healthcare coverage and additional formalities, with costs borne by the student. Requirements and procedures also depend on the length of stay. Check the updated Mobility to the UK section and the institutional sources linked by Sapienza.
